Whittard – Mulled Wine

Time for Tea Please?

It’s the week before Christmas so it only seemed right to share with you a festive tea. Todays brew is Mulled Wine from Whittard.

Make sure you look after yourself with extra tea breaks and some me time in what can be a manic week!

Whittard

Whittards are well established tea company started in London in 1886 by Walter Whittard , moving to Chelsea in 1941 and today now deliver their teas worldwide. It wasn’t until the 1970s where the naming changed to The Whittards of Chelsea everyone knows today!

Mulled Wine

For this blend Whittard uses Apple (34%), Hibiscus (30%), Sweet Blackberry Leaves, Apple Pomace, Roasted Chicory Root (6%), Acid (Citric Acid), Flavouring.

Let’s Get Brewing!

I sort of cheated this week and popped in for a tasting so they brewed it for me ! Plus I just love there glass tea pots and tea light warmers.

The brewed liquid is that of a bright red colouring very much like rudolphs nose.

Let’s Get Sipping!

First sip and I am hooked.

I love Mulled Wine and this is very much the next best thing. Perfect for anyone and everyone and I’m sure you could even infuse your own bottle of red wine this blend too!

It’s fruity and rich, the apple and hibiscus work perfectly together bringing an almost Berry taste to the tea. Mixed with “the acid” brings an almost orangery taste to the blend. As well as bringing the tangy after sip and taste sensation.

Alongside the Chicory root bring extra depth and the flavouring for the spiced tones of the blend working all together ro bring the Mulled side to the brew.

All I need now is a roaring fire and some where cosy to warm up and relax for the perfect winter season brew.

Happy Sipping 🙂

Hyson – Winter Wine

Time for Tea Please?

It’s that time of year where being a non drinker can mean missing out on some of the classic winter classics, mulled wine, baby cham you name it there non-alcoholic versions are a close match but I’m always keen to find new ways to get that festive sip without the spirit !

Here’s looking to Hyson with their Winter Wine.

I was lucky enough to be sent this to try from a fellow tea blogger at Taste The Tea https://www.tastethetea.co.uk so unfortunately I don’t have the packaging so please excuse me on this one but if you pop along to Hyson online shop you can see it for yourself https://shophyson.co.uk/products/winter-wine-flavoured-black-tea

On opening the tea it’s quite sweet in its aroma with an almost fruity tone within the black tea base.

For this tea Hyson blends ceylon black tea with natural raisins and dried petals to enhance the flavour of the wine.

As expected from a black tea the brewed liquid is brown in colour. The aroma from being quite sweet while brewing is less so but has increased in more floral tones.

On first sip I’m just quite not sure. It is a very nice ceylon tea it’s a rich and flavoursome but I’m just not getting the wine vibe. The occasional floral tone is there but I’m slightly disappointed I was expecting more especially from its dried to aroma. For me it doesn’t meet the ‘wine’ aspect I was hoping it too. However this didn’t stop me drinking the whole mug as it was a refreshing cup on ceylon tea.

Although I wasn’t a fan doesn’t mean you won’t be! Tea is unique to you.

Happy Sipping 🙂

Yes It may be the new year but I’m still feeling festivey! Plus it’s my birthday tomorrow so I need to cram in as much of Christmas before it’s too late !

So here’s raising a mug of mulled wine ! Not the booze silly, the brew.

It’s an aromatic fruity sensation and I can’t wait to brew it up !!!!

The liquid is a dark bright red and oozes richness. Basically it’s the same colour of the wine!

As a non drinker it is as close to wine that I’m going to get it. It’s surprisingly life like if that makes sense. It’s a taste sensation it’s the fruity spiced and rich just what you want to from a mulled wine ! Well without the headache !

This tea is the perfect alternative to real mulled wine and definitely warms the soul.

Happy Sipping
