Time for Tea Please?

The best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singling loud for all to hear! Or get pouring a massive pot of Tea. As most of my friends and family know I’m a bit of a tea but so what better way than to treat me is to buy me tea! After spending a festive weekend away with one of my besteas she surprised me with the gift of tea! A festive tea filled bauble of Whittards – Nutcracker Tea.

Once popping opening the bauble tin inside you find a tea pouch filled with tea.

For this tea Whittards blends : Rooibos, Hazelnut Brittle (sugar, hazelnuts), Pecan Kernels, Walnuts, Flavourings, Grated Coconut, Cinnamon, Stevia Leaves. Doesn’t that just sounds tealicious. Even better that its caffeine free and their for the perfect Christmas tea to sip on before bed time.

As soon as you open the tea pouch you are instantly engulfed with the smells of a rich fruity toasted aroma. The depths of the smells coming from the tea is very intense. The hazelnut brittle packs a very sweet intensity to the blends underdone by the coconut an almost toasted side to the nuts. It’s only within further scrutiny that that you can detect the Rooibos but it’s very subtle.

The aromas whilst brewing doesn’t overly change from what it smells like in its dry state. It’s still rich sweet and toasty but the Roobois is still the hardest to detect.

The brewed liquid as expected with a tea blend that contains Rooibos is the distinct redy brown.

First sip is just tealicious !

I really am surprised by how nutty the tea really is! I know it’s called nutcracker but it really does fit it’s name. It’s rich sweet toasty. All the flavours work together just perfectly providing a hidden richness. It’s not until what I like to call the after taste the flavour of the Rooibos has its chance to shine. This isn’t a bad thing because it allows you to enjoy the rich nutty tones followed by the refreshingness and distinct Rooibos flavour. It’s almost like a mini pallet cleanser before the next nutty sip.

Now who doesn’t love a roasted , toasted nut at Christmas ? Not me and hopefully not you !

Very Craftea – Earl Grey Orange Blossom

Today I’m sipping on my first try of Very Craftea. So thank you for sending me a selection of your teas to try. I can’t wait to get sipping on these.

“The idea of Very Craftea was thought up one evening with my good friend Natalie, a cup of tea, some cake and trying to answer the thought provoking questions, like ‘why aren’t there trousers for dogs?’ ”
Now that is a very sensible topic but more than that it led them thinking about how great “Good company and tea. What would make it even better would be a craft kit to go along with it. Natalie then said “Oh, we’re Very Craftea – you know, like craft and tea” and that’s how Very Craftea came into existence “.
The premise was simple, sell tea and craft kits! But loads of companies sell craft kits, and even more sell tea so other than our amazing name, I needed to be different. I tackled the tea first….

I sell socially responsible loose leaf tea. What does that mean I hear you ask. Well, I work with a single tea supplier and they give 50% of their profits to address the issue of educational development in and around the under-served tea growing region of Darjeeling, so the more tea I sell, the more money can go towards projects to help. This money goes direct to the people it affects, not to a big corporation. [UPDATE: My plan for 2019 is to give back myself and I’m looking into different schemes in how to do this, so keep your eyes peeled for more updates]

Next the craft kits. A long time trying to find, modern, fresh kits which more importantly contained everything that was needed to finish it (how many times have you bought a kit, only to realise you need to buy loads of other stuff to finish it? Ain’t nobody got time for that!) So all the kits I sell are not only super fly, but also with everything contained. They are also made by other woman, in the UK who have their own small businesses.

Now I’m all for a bit of girl power especially being one myself girls helping girls and supporting them and shouting about what we can offer. Especially when these CrafTEA ladies are only in the neighbouring county !

Earl Grey Orange Blossom

For this blend Very Craftea uses Premium black tea, Bergamot oil flavour, Orange blossoms.

I love how Very Craftea describes the best time to brew is when you need some caffeine and want to be all fancy. Stick that pinky out when you sip! There’s something quite quintessential about a mug of earl grey tea and I love sipping on mine in the afternoon when I just don’t fancy some milk in my cuppa.

The aroma whilst brewing doesn’t overly, change other than the warmth of the liquid has heightened the Orangey flavour to become more apparent. Which when smelling along side the bergamot is just beauTEAful.

As expected with a black based tea the brewed liquid is that of a dark brown liquid. Traditionally you don’t add milk to an earl grey tea but no judgement here and if you want to add milk you go for it! I love trying new earl grey yeas especially ones that have something different to offer.

First sip is just tealicious. The bergamot and the Orange blossom just works perfectly together. The flavours of the two citrus fruits adds to the fragrance
and almost floral aspects of the tea. After doing a little bit of research on orange blossom apparently it can also be an aphrodisiac ! Who’d have thought it or in this case sipped it!

For me what I love about any Earl Grey is the way other ingredients added to the “normal” blend can change the sipping experience. For me the use of the Orange blossom is just perfect. It’s not over powering in its flavour it’s enough to let you know it’s there but it also allows the bergamot and black tea to equally have its say within the blend and as part of each sip. Which is what a great tea should achieve so bonus points to Very Craftea.

This tea is one of those that’s perfect for afternoon sipping or as part of an afternoon tea.

De Oliveira Tea House was inspired by a man named Eugene de Oliveira. A beautiful, intelligent, creative and warm hearted man who lit up any room he was in.

Our family tragically lost Eugene on May 27th, 2019, a few weeks after his 27th birthday.

While we no longer have the blessing of having him around physically, we have the gift of his presence and his vision for the future.

Each tea we blend and package is full of love, devotion and hope.

We dreamt that through these teas, we could give our customers the same warm comfort Eugene gave us. We want to create a legacy he’d be proud to lend his name to.

Sweet As Apple Pie

For this blend De Oliveira Tea House only uses organic ingredients of the following: Rooibos, Honeybush, Apple Pieces, Cinnamon, Vanilla Pod Powder & Ginger.

On opening the tea pouch you are instantly engulfed with the sweets sea of the vanilla and fruity tones of the organic apple pieces . It’s almost hard to even distinguish the Rooibos and Honeybush aspect of the tea in its smell straight from the pouch.

Upon brewing the aroma of the tea completely changes to that of its dry state. It allows the Rooibos to really sing and allows the cinnamon and ginger to warm and develop as the flavours intensify.

As expected with a tea blend that contains Rooibos is a brewed liquid that has a brown redy tinge.

Let’s get sipping !

First sip hellloooooo Rooibos, which is first taste followed then by the after taste of the apple chunks. Despite its aroma the tea isn’t overly as sweet as I expected it to be. However I find that the tea being this way allows for the flavours of vanilla, ginger and cinnamon to naturally enhance their flavours and natural sweetness. Despite the Rooibos and Honeybush having what at times can be an “overpowering” flavour , this blend manages to allow the other ingredients to have turn not just separately but individually.

This blend is also pretty unique I’ve had plenty off apple teas and even more Rooibos teas but together nope ! It’s a new one for me and a lovely guilt free apple pie perfect for autumn weather and cosy nights in.

State of Mind – Sense of Humour

Today I’m going to be sipping on a blend called Sense of Humour by a French based tea company called State of Mind .

State of Mind philosophy is the “Blending the timeless ritual of the tea ceremony with the art of perfumery”. A very unique way of looking at tea. Like choosing a perfume , choosing a tea it is able to generate feelings emotions which can affect your thoughts.

I’m sure like me you’ve all had sipping pleasures which take you back to a time or place. I know I have / do.

Sense of Humour

For this blend State of Mind uses Mate, Darjeeling, Lemon, Mandarin, Peach and Coriander.

Upon opening the tea envelope you are instantly hit with the aroma of Darjeeling tea with underlying notes of citrus and coriander. I am a little bit sceptical of using coriander in tea but hey I’ll give it a go.

Whilst brewing the aroma doesn’t overly change. If anything it’s slightly less intense in its liquid form than in its dry state.

As to be expected with a tea that contains Darjeeling in will be of a brown in colour.

First sip is interesting. The combination of the Darjeeling and Mate just works. Together they provide an almost peppery musky taste.
The use of the different fruit flavours within the tea lemon, mandarin and peach. It provides an almost citrus kick to the after taste. Due to this the use of the coriander it allows the fruity flavours to intensify.

I’ve never tried Mate before which is a traditional tea from Argentina and Paraguay when combined with Darjeeling produces a traditional energy drink with vitamins B and C. Combined with the fruity notes of the blend makes it a pleasurable drinking experience.

Chai Kai – Chocolate Chai

I love finding new tea companies and was lucky enough to connect up with Chai Kai on Instagram , their user name is: @chaikaitea so go check them out ! Oh and me too @timeforteaplease.

Today they have sent me to try and share with all of you their Chocolate Chai , black tea blend. Well I do love chocolate and of course tea so I’m excited to see what this tea has in store, especially as it says it’s a chocoholics dream!

Safe to say I’m now dreaming of chocolate and with easter only a few days away I can’t wait to try!

Mmmm on opening the pouch you can certainly smell the cocoa shells .

It all sounds an exciting combination to me and the loose leaf looks amazing too.

Placing the recommended 1 teaspoon into my infuser, on goes the water.

The aroma is magnificent chocolate just oozes out yet mixed with the spicy undertones. Going by Chai Kai Tea’s recommendations I brew the tea for three minutes! Like any new tea or just a tea in general brew to suit you, but as I’ve not tried the tea before and Chai Kai are the experts I’m listening to them!

I love being able to see the loose leaf pieces once they’ve all been expanded.

Let’s get sipping!

It’s a very mixed sip ! One second you hit with cocoa then quickly comes the spiced sensation from the blend of cardamom, ginger and cinnamon yet all being combined with the floral tones of the sunflower petals. Together it just works!

I really love it when there’s floral tones to a tea as it just adds an extra depth of flavour and the of the sunflower petals just adds extra depth to the chocolate flavour. It almost intensifies it. The spiced aspect of the tea undertones the tea by adding an extra dimension to the sip by not over powering yet reminds you that it’s there without any horrible after taste.

So if you’re a chocoholic like me and like a bit of spice in your life (not in the burn your mouth of sense!) then is a perfect brew for you!
