Masala Chai

As soon as you open the tea pouch you are engulfed with spices warming your senses and enticing you. It’s rich sweet cinnamon and aniseed being the main aromas in your face.

For this blend TeaTeas uses a mixed spiced tea blend. It’s a secret blend which is fair enough but doesn’t it look BeauTEAful.

Let’s get Brewing

Whilst brewing the aroma of the tea doesn’t massively change, it’s tones are slightly more peppery and the aniseed has now mellowed out.

As with most teas that contain black tea in the brewed liquid is of a brown colouring. The liquid may look a bit a strange to some of you but I live in a hard water area.

Let’s get Sipping

First sip is just tealicious. From the strength of the dried tea , to it mellowing whilst brewing I wasn’t sure what to expect but the blend is magic.

All the flavours work together rather than fighting against each other for your attention. By this happening it makes the tea sip sip just calming. The spiced aspects of the blend adds an extra warm ness and is like drinking a hug in a mug.

It’s not till the after sip of the tea that you get a peppery aniseed punch. Which injects an extra added heat to each mouthful.

The only downside to this blend was that my mug just wasn’t big enough !

Twist – Orange and Lemon

Time for tea please?

Now we are full on autumn mode as well as being back in lockdown , taking time out for a cuppa is much needed. So when Twist Teas approached me about trying there teas of course I wasn’t going to say no !

Twist Tea

Twist Tea was found in January 2017 by the Kavanaugh family to create ( taken direct from website) something really innovative for lovers of tea and set about creating a range of the finest whole leaf teas, herbs and fruits, blended to delight taste buds and bring a smile to its drinkers.

They’ve “always loved tea. There’s nothing like it to lift the spirits and raise a smile, whether alone or with others, out and about or in the comforts of your own home”.

That sentiment is absolutely lovely especially at the covid would we find ourselves in.

Orange and Lemon

For this tea , Twist Teas blends : Apple Pieces, Rosehip, Hibiscus, Lemongrass (14%), Lemon Peel (12%), Orange Peel (7%), Orange Blossom (4%), Natural Flavouring .

On opening the tea pouch you are instantly hit with citrus notes of the blend. The lemongrass is the shining light in its dry state.

The blend itself just looks tealicious!

Now this brew is part of Twist Teas cold brew range however I’m going to have it hot.

The aroma whilst brewing is a complete marriage of the two main ingredients the orange and lemon so it screams st.clements

I was rather shocked by the brewed liquid colouring of a pink shade but then remembered the hibiscus and rosehip within this tea blend.

Let’s get Sipping.

First sip is just tealicious.

The orange and the lemon are a match made in heaven. It screams St. Clements. For me it’s a 2 sip tea. At first the tea tastes of orange and then the after taste of the tea is lemon.

Despite the other ingredients within the blend they aren’t majorly noticeable. The odd occasions you can taste the use of the apple , hibiscus and rosehip it’s does change the sipping dynamic. However they are used more to support, enhance and enrich the flavour of the orange and lemon.

You can tell that this tea is made to be had cold as well as hot due to the strength of the blend. As well as the fact that the flavour stays the same strength throughout the whole cuppa.

I really enjoyed the drink as a hot brew but served ice cold or even as a cheeky cold spritzer it would be just BeauTEAful!

Avantcha – Majestic Earl Grey

We all know I love an Earl Grey Tea and today I get to try Avantcha’s blend Majestic Earl Grey.

I absolutely love their mission statement, it sums up some of my fave things that tea can do.

Majestic Earl Grey

For this blend Avantcha uses Organic Black tea, natural bergamot flavouring, organic marigold petals.

As soon as you open the tea pouch you are instantly engulfed with the distinct earl grey aroma with a punchy floral side.

How BeauTEAful does the blend look the yellow of the marigold looks super vibrant !

Let’s get Brewing!

Whilst brewing the aroma does slightly change from its dry state. The black tea comes through a lot stronger and the marigold petals intensifies even more.

As to be expected with a black based tea the brewed liquid is of a dark brown in colour.

Let’s get Sipping!

First sip is absolutely tealicious and I am hooked. It just tastes marvellous. The balance of the black tea with …. is on point. The floral side of the tea makes for a happy mellow sipping. It’s punchy and you know that it’s their but also allows the black tea to shine through too!

Another pleasing aspect to this tea is the flavour intensity. This tea unlike some tastes exactly the same throughout the whole sipping experience. It doesn’t get weaker or stronger but stays the same ensuring a lasting flavour.

This blend is a ray of sunshine on a rainy day.

Tea Break Bakes is a small business in Rawcliffe, East Yorkshire. Set up by Lizzie as a business from home while she was on maternity leave. Through the help of family and friends she was able to try and test her recipes. She’s now ready to share them with you too !

Time to choose which brownie!

Based on having a steaming mug of Yorkshire Tea , I’ve decided to go with the classic white chocolate blondie.

This way the tea will be just right and the flavours will compliment each other, rather than over powering it.

The blondie itself is the perfect balance of soft and gooey yet with a crisp top.

There’s not just white chocolate drizzle but also white chocolate chunks too. The snap of the white chocolate chunks just adds a perfect extra texture to the blondie.

The Yorkshire tea works as the perfect palette cleanser as it’s not to sweet and the dash of milk works perfect with the blondie aspect.

If I was to be having a brownie I’d choose more of an Earl Grey where the perfume aspect of the tea is likely to compliment and refresh especially the bakes with fruit in it.

House of Lilah – Tropical Escape

Today I’m going to be sipping on another blend from House of Lilah . This one being Tropical Escape . The name on its own is enticing enough, let along the brightly coloured design upon packaging.

Tropical Escape

For this blend House of Lilah uses : Chinese sencha (green tea), desiccated coconut , stevia, pineapple pieces (freeze-dried), mango flavouring, pineapple flavouring, coconut flavouring.

As soon as you open the pouch you are instantly engulfed with the aroma of the coconut and pineapple and very little else. Not that this is a bad thing as it screams piña colada.

Let’s Get Brewing !

The aroma whilst brewing doesn’t majorly change from its dry state the pineapple and the coconut are still the major players if anything it’s more fruity with the mango starting to coming through more.

With lots of loose leaf tea I love seeing the transformation of it. Those massive pieces weren’t in there to start with !!!!

Unlike other green tea based green teas the brewed liquid is a lot more yellow. Presumably down to the pineapple and mango within the blend.

Let’s Get Sipping!

One sip and your hooked. The tea itself is everything you smelt and more. The coconut , pineapple and mango are everything about this tea. Each sip just screams tropical paradise and brings the nostalgia to each sip.

Hot or cold this brew is the Piña Colada of teas. Having only had it warm so far it’s obvious too that this tea would be perfect iced or even as lemonade spritz on a warm summers night. Well any time really!

Despite this tea being a green tea , it’s probably the only flavour that you can’t taste! Now this isn’t a bad thing as sometimes green teas can be just too grassy. However I can’t even detect it at all but as it’s clearly in the blend at least we are still getting all the health benefits of it.

If I was to have one slight criticism of this blend is that it’s a little too sweet and without the stevia it may just allow the green tea to shine a bit more.

Don’t let that put you off trying this tea as it’s the perfect brew for any ParTEA especially for mocktails!

Creamy Caramel Rooibos

As soon as you open the tea pouch you are instantly engulfed with the distinct Rooibos aroma . On further sniffing you are able to detect the sweet caramel notes.

For this blend Mystic Brew Tea uses Rooibos, Calendula petals, Natural flavors. Doesn’t it just look BeauTEAful?

For this brew I made my own teabag !

The aroma whilst brewing is really sweet and intense. The Rooibos aspect of the blend unlike in its dry state is at the back of the smell. It’s the sugary notes of the caramel side of the tea that sings whilst brewing.

Like any tea that contains Rooibos the brewed liquid is of a browny red in its colouring.

Let’s get sipping !

First sip and I am hooked. The caramel aspect of the tea is just lovely. It balances out the flavour of the Rooibos and together they just compliment each other. Sometimes you can find Rooibos within a blend over powering but with this one it’s not the case.

The caramel side to the tea blend brings such a natural sweetness to the tea which is frankly quite amazing. Which makes it the perfect afternoon pick me up minus the caffeine.

Even as the blend gets cooler the flavours combination doesn’t change.

The Duffy Tea Company – London Fog Creamy Earl Grey

Tea for me is a drink that can be drank at any time of tea depending on mood and what time of day it is for me depends on what type of tea o will choose and thanks to The Duffy Tea Company I’m able to try London Fog Creamy Earl Grey. As you all know I’m a massive fan of an Earl Grey tea but what makes this one different is that it’s caffeine free.

London Fog Creamy Earl Grey

For this blend The Duffy Tea Company uses: Rooibos 91% , Lavender Blossoms, Vanilla Pieces 3%, Natural Flavours and Jasmine Blossoms. As soon as you open the tea pouch you are instantly engulfed with the distinct smells of rooibos and the lavender. It is very hard to detect the vanilla and jasmine within the blend at this point.

Doesn’t the loose leaf tea just look tealicious !

Let’s get brewing!

Whilst the tea is brewing the aroma is almost the opposite to its dry state where the vanilla is now the main aroma. With the slightly under lying floral notes of the jasmine and the lavender and for once the Rooibos isn’t the main smell which tends to be the case with tea blends which have it in.

The brewed liquid is of a brownie red in colouring.

Let’s get sipping!

First sip is just BeauTEAful. It’s not like any other tea I’ve tasted before. It has all the magic of an earl grey without sort of being one. As this tea is caffeine free instead of using the black tea normally an earl grey would this blend used Rooibos. Therefore you get the distinct Rooibos flavour. However through the use of the lavender , vanilla, and jasmine the flavour just screams earl grey.

I also love the strength of the lavender it’s super punchy yet instantly calming too. With the use of the vanilla the tea is perfectly sweet so need to add anything.

This blend is perfect hot or cold and is lovely refreshing. With being caffeine free this blend is perfect for any time of day especially if just need a moment of a calm it was almost like it has magic powers with its soothing qualities.

The Orangery Tea Rooms

One thing I’ve majorly missed during lockdown is visiting new places and finding new gems for a good ol cuppa.

So making the most of my weekends as I’ve been working throughout the whole pandemic I paid a visit to The Orangery Tea Rooms , which is based at Ketteringham Hall in Norfolk , England.

There falling full guidance to be covid safe so know-one needs to worry and it was very well signed it to keep the staff and visitors safe.

The Tea rooms itself is situated alongside the hall in some lovely grounds.

Cream Tea

After browsing the menu it wasn’t difficult to choose what I was going to try. So I went for the classic Cream Tea. I was very impressed that I was able to choose which tea i’d like to have with it. So of course I chose their Earl Grey.

Given the current climate all cream teas and their menu is takeaway only but when you’ve got lovely grounds to sit in , it wasn’t going to be an issue.

For a “takeaway” cream tea I was super impressed. Especially as it’s my first visit to the tea rooms I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Come on just look at that scone , I’ve tasted and baked enough scones to know that from just looking at that one it’s going to be tasty.

I’m a jam first person always ! Mainly because the cream sits better on the jam in my opinion and it just doesn’t taste the same to me eaten any other the way.

The scone was light well risen yet crisp in the right places for that perfect bite.

The Earl Grey to my surprise was an actually a homemade teabag filled with looseleaf tea. The Earl Grey was perfectly balanced in its floral bergamot tones. As always I drink my earl grey tea black to allow the tea flavours to sing.

You could have had any of the teas or hot drinks with the cream teas for any of you who aren’t tea drinkers, although I’m sure that doesn’t apply to any of you !!!!

For me when having a cream tea or an afternoon tea I tend to favour teas like earl grey or flavoured black teas as the freshness of the tea makes the taste of the food much nicer. However tea is unique to you so drink what ever you like !

I’d highly recommend paying a visit to the orangery as why wouldn’t you want to sit in the lovely grounds having a cream tea with good company on a lovely day.

Tea Treat – Earl Grey Scones

Time for Tea Please?

When being in lockdown it’s important to,fill your time with things you love doing or haven’t had a chance to do in a while and for me that’s baking. Although I’m still working I’ve found extra time in the day to fill with things I’ve not done in a while.

So today I’m back baking scones. For today’s ones I’m keeping with the the tea theme and baking some Earl Grey flavour ones.

The Ingredients

1lb Self Raising Flour
4oz Butter
4oz Sugar
1/2 tsp Baking Powder
Milk
3 Earl Grey Tea Bags
1 egg (optional)
Round cutter

Method

1. Brew half a mug of tea using all 3 tea bags and steep for 5/10 mins and then leave to cool.

2. Preheat oven to 180 degrees, Weigh out the flour , sugar , butter and baking powder and rub together to form bread crumbs.

3. Alternating the tea and the milk till a damp dough is formed.

4. Form in to a round dough , flatten the dough by hand to the height of your cutter. (I choose to flatten by hand instead of rolling it out to keep as much air in the dough).

5. Cut out as many rounds as you can and place on to a greased/lined baking tray. Re roll and repeat stage 4 & 5 again till the dough is used.

6. Glaze the scones with an egg wash or milk wash .

7. Bake for aprox 12-15 mins till golden brown or till flicking the bottom of your scones sound hollowish.

8. Cool and then serve.

I’m choosing to serve mine with lemon and lime curd and some sweetened cream cheese. Delicious .
